Often this category is referred to as Intimate Landscape. The incredible detail and complexity of nature really begins at arms length, visually speaking, and often it’s not necessary to include any distance elements to make a compelling and significant study of nature’s abstract and formal wonder. Verging on abstraction, pictures made at this distance can sometimes challenge the viewer’s perception of scale, and record colour, texture and form that you could scarcely believe exist in the real world. In this way, photography encourages us to look, and see, whether as photographer or viewer, and discover the beauty and fascination that can exist in small and everyday manifestations of the natural world.
