In 2022, Simon Baxter and Joe Cornish staged a remarkable collaborative exhibition at the North York Moors Centre in Danby entitled Woodland Sanctuary. Widely acclaimed by visitors, they revealed the staggering variety and beauty of North York Moors woodlands in a series of carefully curated themes that provoked delight, surprise and curiosity.

In 2025 the National Trust invited them to team up again at Nunnington Hall. The exhibition, All the Wood's a stage, is composed of their latest woodland work made over the last three years. It highlights the wonders of trees, woods and forests from right across the UK. The emphasis is to give a voice – or a stage – to trees.

Observing, watching, and even listening to trees is a source of joy for both photographers as they walk the woods, search for and frame their images. The exhibition – and now the book – encourages us to fall in love with trees… for all that they reflect about us; for their power to heal; and for their inspirational beauty.
